Judson
Baptist
Church is named in the memory of Adoniram Judson, the first Baptist missionary to
Burma. The doors of
Judson
Baptist
Church opened and first communion was held in Spring of 1921. As construction continued, in November of 1923, the inscription was chosen from Isaiah 43:10 for the cornerstone, “Ye Are My Witnesses.”
Then, as now,
Judson
Baptist
Church took this scriptural charge both literally and seriously under the leadership and guidance of dedicated shepherds, and other servants of God, such as Merril Dunlop, a renown composer and accomplished pianist, organist, and contemporary of Billy Graham. In the early 70’s, Dan Spader, led a large youth movement at
Judson
Baptist
Church that eventually evolved into the internationally known SonLife Ministries.
Since its beginnings, Judson has been blessed to nurture and sponsor missionaries, Vacation Bible schools, summer camps, winter camps, chorales, dramas, evangelistic conferences, courses in Christian education, tent-meetings, lunches, brunches, parades, and neighborhood block parties as continuing witnesses for Christ.
JBC has been privileged to continue growing; both in physical size and evangelistic scope to reach
Austin ,
Oak Park , Chicagoland, and beyond. A $175,000 phased building renovation initiated in 1999, focused on keeping pace with the needs of the congregation and surrounding community.
